My name is Deniz Akin. My first name is the Turkish word for the Sea. I have been a certified fish geek my entire life. My dad had a copy of the Dorling Kindersley Encyclopedia of Fishing when I was a kid, and I was obsessed with it. A few decades later, I finished a B.Sc. in Fisheries and Aquaculture and began working with Salmon Broodstock here in BC, and even spent a year doing aquaculture research for offshore seaweed farming in Hawaii.

In early 2024, I began experimenting with laminating different types of wood with epoxy resin. A year later, I had a collection of unique art pieces that I wanted to share with the world.

These fish carvings represent my love for the species I have seen, caught or learned about in my life, although creating exact replicas of them is not my goal. If one of my pieces ends up on your shelf or wall, I hope it brings you joy and captures a little bit of the wild and beautiful world that lies just below the surface.

Thank you for your interest in my work.
